St James’s Hospital is looking to sponsor a highly
motivated and enthusiastic individual for a career in
gastro-intestinal physiology.
No GI training backround is necessary, as training will
be provided.
However it would be preferable to have some knowledge of
GI Physiology
St
James’s Hospital provides a comprehensive service in GI
Function Testing within
its
local catchment population and at a national level and
is able to offer a GI Function
student a well rounded training programme leading to a
qualification that is recognised in Ireland and the UK.
Working within the GI Function Unit, as part of the GI
team and supervised by a
Senior Clinical Measurement Scientist, you will learn
and develop the skills required in the provision of
diagnostic service in gastroenterology.
Requirements:
BSc
in Clinical Measurement Science or currently studying
for the BSc, Cert in Medical Physics and Physiological
measurement ( prior 2001) or Tech Diploma in Applied
Science ( Physics or Biology) or its equivalent.
Preferable computer skills

Job Description
Clinical Measurement Scientist ( GI)
1.
ROLE
1.1 The recording and monitoring
of Gastro- Intestinal (GI) Function using a variety of
techniques and equipment.
1.2 The analysis of patient
reports. This may entail highlighting and selecting
particular aspects of a recording.
1.3 The ability to use and adopt
new advances in technology and equipment.
2. RESPONSIBILITIES
2.1 To record and monitor the
oesophageal function of patients as requested by a
Physician.
2.2 Calibration and maintenance of
all equipment.
2.3
Participation in patient care i.e. Preparation
and reassurance of patient
2.5 Maintaining computer files/
patient files.
2.6 Liaising with hospital
personnel on investigation and patient difficulties.
2.7 To note medication and know
its possible effects on the test to be carried out, and
to instruct patients on discontinuing the appropriate
medications prior to investigation,
2.8 To modify or discontinue
studies where appropriate.
2.9 To attend to the safety of
patients during the recording of GI Function.
