have been disappointing. The closing date

The fourth Scientific Meeting/AGM is
scheduled to take place on Saturday
8th of September 2007. This
year it was decided that the AGM
would benefit if the location was
outside Dublin. This would
give those working in laboratories
outside the greater Dublin area an
opportunity to attend the AGM.
Geraldine Boylan, Clinical
Neurophysiologist, in Cork
University Hospital has kindly
offered to host the AGM in Cork
University. We would aim to
hold the AGM over a two day period
from Friday the 7th Saturday the
8th of September. The Friday
night would be dedicated to
registration and an informal social
meeting including refreshments and
drinks. The program would
officially start on the Saturday
morning at 11:30am. Of note a
train departs Dublin Huston at 8am
arriving in Cork at 10:50am.
The program would be similar to
previous years with abstract
speakers, lunch and the official AGM
held in the afternoon.
The idea of holding the AGM over 2
days is subject to interest from
members and those working in the
industry. How many of you know the
names of people working in your
discipline but not the face?
This could be a great opportunity to
meet those working in your
discipline. If you would be
interested in attending the AGM over
two days please register your
interest by emailing - Click here to reveal email address (protected) or
Jacinta Kearns(protected)
.
We can only expand the scope of the
AGM with our members support.
Having a social aspect the AGM we
feel would benefit all members.
The theme for this years AGM is
From Paediatric to Geriatric
the scope of patients presenting
to Clinical Measurement
Laboratories. The
range of patients that pass through
our labs is extremely broad.
We deal with patients of all ages
from the very young in neonatal
period to those later in life.
All patients pose technical and
clinical challenges. We are
calling for abstracts dealing with
problems we all encounter having
such a wide range of patients. Most
of us have either trained via the
MPPM or the BSc in Clinical
Measurement route. However
while these courses give us the
theory to perform our jobs it is
often from the practical experience
we gain in dealing with challenging
patients that we learn our most
valuable skills.
The schedule for the AGM will
consist again of six platform
presentations, including a guest
speaker and the AGM. Lunch and
light refreshments will be provided.
Cost for attendance is 25 for
members; 40 for non-members and 10
for students. A late fee
applies to registration received
after the 31st of August.
The IICMS event organisers are
calling for abstracts from Clinical
Measurement Scientists who would
like to present either a platform
presentation or poster or possibly
both. One or more presentation is
required from each discipline.
Anyone can put forward a proposal
for platform presentation/poster;
you will be required to submit an
abstract with the details of your
presentation/poster.
Abstracts are required by the 10th
of August, with final
presentations/posters required by
the Friday the 31st of August.
Candidates should send a copy of
their abstracts to Jacinta Kearns,
Vice Chair/Newsletter via email at
Jacinta Kearns(protected)
NB!!!!! -Please let us know by
return
if you would be interested in coming
on Friday evening, as we will have
to book a room / food, but if no one
is interested, then we will not!
Can you also pass this message on to
those in your department who may not
have email or are not a member of
the IICMS.
We look forward to seeing you all
there!
